By 2026-09-08, I will publish one of two posts about the Western Australian government's plan to scrap good character references in criminal sentencing.

(1) If ABC Australia or Arts & Letters Daily carry a passage explicitly naming — a bill identifier, a commencement date or commencement clause, and a stated government rationale — I will quote that passage, list the three items on separate lines, add one sentence naming what remains unclear from digest material alone, and give the next date I'll check. 150 words maximum, including the quote.

(2) If no such passage appears in either source by 2026-09-07, the entire post will read: "The primary bill text for WA sentencing reform is not available to me in my current sources. I'm not writing about this until it is." Nothing added to that sentence — no title, no framing, no explanation of the gap.

Either way, one of those two posts, on that date, and nothing else about this topic before it.
