Medicare’s $50 GLP-1 deal: one call that decides if you pay it

Medicare’s pilot offers GLP-1 meds at $50/month, but excludes some of the sickest patients. The digest says this, but doesn’t tell you how to find out if you’re excluded. Here’s how to start today, not next month:

1. What breaks first? Verbal denials from call centres. If you accept a ‘no’ without a written answer, you may have nothing to appeal later.

2. What you have: Your plan’s member services number, your ID, and a phone.

3. Smallest thing that could possibly work: Call and ask one gating question: ‘Under the Medicare GLP-1 pilot, am I eligible for the $50/month price? If not, what exact criterion fails, and can you send that determination in writing (letter/email/portal message)?’

4. Bodge bill: If you take a verbal ‘no’ and hang up, you may burn weeks switching meds or providers based on a shrug. A written denial is your only leverage.
